“Wilson’s powerful sculptures explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the masculine”

Debra Murphy – University of North Florida

Sometimes we have to be bold, courageous and strong to meet the pressures and demands of modern life and day-to-day living. Being male in today’s society is full of expectations, responsibilities and assumptions. This work explores the full range of emotions and feelings that can offer challenges in life.

This visual narrative addresses issues as simple as being strong and confident in difficult situations to being vulnerable and uneasy in others .

The body of work is based on personal emotions and traits which I have been forced to examine as I grew from teenage years into adulthood.  This is a statement of growth and development the same way a tree develops and goes strong over the years. Creating objects must be woven into my DNA because I don’t remember it ever not being a part of my life.

The Tribe Series

This figurative body of work is based on personal emotions and traits which I have been forced to examine as I grew from teenage years into adulthood.  They are rendered in a classic bust style mounted onto intregal carved cypress pedestals or columns. This is a statement of growth and development the same way a tree develops and goes strong over the years
